The Vallesina, a valley in the mountains, spreads out between the following municipalities: Cerreto d’Esi, Matelica, Esanatoglia, Pioraco, Fiuminata and Campodonico.

The Vallesina, a valley in the mountains, spreads out between the following municipalities: Cerreto d’Esi, Matelica, Esanatoglia, Pioraco, Fiuminata and Campodonico. This area is certainly one of the more hospitable localities in the Fabriano territory.
The harshness of this morphology has favoured the preservation of spontaneous vegetation, culminating in the creation of 27 natural park reserves.
The “Verdicchio” wine surely represents one of the more important local production resources in the area, undeniably boosting the local economy. It is the most esteemed autoctonous vine of the Marches, a D.O.C. label wine, Verdicchio is endured and complex wine to produce. The ancient university town of Camerino has been a strong influence in the area. In particular due to the noble family of Da Varano, whom for over three centuries during the medieval era, played an important role not only within the territory but also in the formation of the Italian peninsula. The testimony of this grand nobility is visible thanks to the numerous construction ruins, such as city walls, watch towers, castles and abbeys, used to guard and defend the territories within their domain.
