Religious architecture represents an inestimable wealth of the whole provincial territory

Imagine: Abazia San Vittore di Genga - Frasassi
Religious architecture represents an inestimable wealth of the whole provincial territory : abbeys, parish cherches, rural chapels, sanctuariesmonasteries and convents, provide the historical and spiritual legacy of the medieval and barouque periods.

There are many excellent sites. The Benedictine abbeys of XI and XII centuries, in the Esino valley, have survived amongst the splendid Gothic and Romanesque churches, such as S. Vittore delle Chiuse (Genga), S. Elena (Serra S. Quirico), S. Croce (Sassoferrato) and the Cistercian abbeyof Chiaravalle, along with the impressive town cathedrals, in particular, S. Ciriaco of Ancona and S. Leopardo of Osimo. From the first half of the thirteenth century, we can find monumental churches, like for exempla, Franciscan converts of Sassoferrato and Staffolo. During the Renaissance, the marellous exempls of the Basilica di Loreto and the convert of S. Maria delle Grazie in Senigallia. Between 1600 and 1700 construction flourished in the whole territory, rebuilding the cities of the province, like Jesi, Fabriano,Osimo and Cupramontana, treasure troves of Baroque and Neoclassical architecture. Finally, the unique Museum of Monastic Arts at Serra de' Conti, an insight into the world of cloistered nuns.
